There's an excellent article on the economics of Flash games on the Lost Garden blog. Here's some of the key market data:
- There are over 14,000 games spread across 30,000 portals
- There are hundreds of new games coming out every month
- The size of the market is 359 Million players
The post talks a lot about the economics of making Flash games and what developers need to be doing to actually make money and survive. The ad-supported model for Flash titles is obviously broken given the metrics presented.

PSN Users are 28 Year-Old Males with Money
SCEA director of PSN operations and strategic operations said that the PSN userbase is:- Primarily male
- Average age 28 years old
- Usually in the middle- to higher-income range
Opinion: IESherpa would expect the age to drop given the price cut as well as the income level as the PS3 now has the properties that made the PS2 a success. It's a great machine for playing games, but it's a justifiable purchase for famalies as a Blu-Ray player that plays games. This was a major factor in the PS2 becoming mainstream since it was on par or slightly cheaper than the average DVD player in 1999. Let's hope Blu-Ray content can help drive demand for the platform.

There are 65 Million Online Gamers in China
According to a new report by leading China Game Market Analyst firm Niko Partners, there will be 65 million online gamers in China by the end of 2009. On average, these gamers will spend $52 each by the end of the year.

China Mobile Market Data in Today’s WSJ Online
There is interesting data on China's mobile market in an article on the Wall Street Journal Online today. According to the story:
- China is the world's largest mobile market by subscribers, with 687 million subscribers
- There are more than 270 million subscribers in the U.S.
- Toni Sacconaghi, an analyst with Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., predicts Apple can sell 2.9 million iPhones in China by the end of 2011
- iPhone has so far sold more than 26 million units worldwide in more than 80 countries, but the majority of sales are in the U.S.
- According to IDC, 7% of total iPhone sales in the second quarter, ended in June, came from the Asia Pacific
- 49% of total iPhone sales in the second quarter came from the U.S. and 25% from Western Europe
